Download A New Interpol Song

All too quiet NYC quartet randomly released for download a new single from their forthcoming album. The track is called Lights and can be downloaded below.

Francis and the Lights

I've been hot on this guy for about a year now and finally after a couple of digitally released EPs, he has a proper album coming out and you can stream in full, below.

The NYC based Francis (and his Lights) blend a soulful, synth driven brand of rock that goes down smooth and easy. Think Phil Collins meets Talking Heads.

They are opening up for Edward Sharpe, (who coincidentally carries a group of extras in the Magnetic Zeroes) and he will headline a show at The Echo May 20, 21 respectively.

Swerve on.

Listen to the new Flying Lotus album

Man oh man, May is shaping up to be a monumental month for music. We've already previewed tracks and/or albums from The National, Broken Social Scene, LCD Soundsystem and Band of Horses.

Let's add the excellent and genre-bending Cosmogramma from Flying Lotus to the list; and yes, that song with Thom Yorke is on the new album.

Flying Lotus has schedule two Los Angeles dates at the Echoplex May 14th and 15th.

Odds and Ends

A couple bands I like to post about here on YKTAM, The National and Broken Social Scene have provided us good times heading into the weekend.

Firstly, head over to the NY Times website for a great article on the National and stream their new album High Violet in its entirety. Can't wait for this record to drop. Also, remember that tickets are still available for their two shows at the Wiltern May 21 and 22.

Secondly, Broken Social Scene played their new single Forced to Love on Letterman last night. See above and you can also stream their new album as well. BSS will be playing a free in-store performance at Amoeba in Hollywood Tuesday May 4 at 6pm. Get there early!

How did we get by consuming music not in the digital age?

Active Child

LA based artist Active Child has been on my personal play list of late and I thought I'd highlight a couple tracks for you all. The synth heavy pop features layered vocals that soar above glitches, chords and beats (think M83); perfect for those hazy spring days.

His debut EP Curtis Lane will be released in the UK via Merok Records, May 24th. I imagine US release will follow soon thereafter.

Catch him at the Troubadour tomorrow April 22 (8pm) as he'll open up for another rising local band, Princeton.

Enjoy.

Active Child - She Was a Vision

Massive Show Update w/ Accompanying Jams

Now that the dust has settled in the desert, bands are announcing their summer itinerary for Los Angeles; and it looks to be busy as ever. Note that all Hollywood Bowl shows go on sale May 2 at 10am.

Get ready kids, summer is right around the corner.

- Miike Snow continue to ride their wave of buzz at the Music Box June 2. YKTAM favs Delorean will be opening.

- It's been reported that LCD Soundsystem will force those in attendance at the Hollywood Palladium June 4th and the Fox Theater in Pomona June 5th to dance their asses off.

- Local Natives will have a homecoming of sorts at the Troubadour June 4. UPDATE: This show is now SOLD OUT. Another LA date will be announced soon.

- The xx will bring their mellow grooves to both the Music Box and the Wiltern June 5 and June 6 respectively.

- Angelenos love Phoenix. The dudes in Phoenix love Los Angeles (see, look). Therefore, it makes sense that they play at the Hollywood Bowl September 18.

- Dirty Projectors can almost claim LA home, as they've played here countless times in the last year. Let's add another show for good measure say, September 24 at the Wiltern.

- Vampire Weekend will please the audible senses of teenage girls, hipsters and parents all at the same time whilst playing the Hollywood Bowl September 26th. It is extremely noteworthy that Beach House will be opening this show.

- A solid triple bill at the Hollywood Bowl with Pavement, Sonic Youth and No Age September 30.

LCD Soundsystem - Dance Yrself Clean
Local Natives - World News
The xx - Basic Space
Phoenix - Lisztomania (Acoustic)
Dirty Projectors - Rise Above

Spring Playlist Curated by Ed Droste of Grizzly Bear

Thank you to the lovely @marsh61984 for giving me the heads up on this fab springtime playlist crafted by the Grizzly Bear co-headman, Ed Droste for fashion blog Refinery 29. You can sample the tracks one by one, download the list or stream below.

I love this time of year.

LCD Soundsystem - This Is Happening

There are three things in this world that are absolutes; death, taxes and the epic dance party James Murphy brings to the table. While I must admit I have lukewarm feelings for the first single Drunk Girls, the album as a whole is excellent.

You can currently stream the album in it's entirety, on the LCD Soundsystem website and pre-order in anticipation of it's May 18th release date.

Have fun out there.

Band of Horses - Laredo

Band of Horses have a new album entitled Infinite Arms due May 18 via Fat Possum records.

We've already heard the very "Band of Horses-ish" first single Compliments on the latest rendition of Sunday Morning Soundtrack, but the band made available a new ditty (again, very BOH-ish) Laredo today.

The single is embedded below. Let me know what you think. I feel this could be a nice slow burning summer album.

State Bicycle

State Bicycle Co. based out of Tempe, AZ has been garnering quite a bit of buzz these days; and rightfully so. The start up biz currently based online (with hopes to open a physical location soon) is run by Mehdi Farsi, Reza Farsi and Eric Ferguson. These guys excel in providing ease of entry for those that want to make the leap into the fixed (or free-wheel) world of cycling or catering to those that simply need to upgrade their current whip.

I for one, ride fixed and have experienced the learning curve that is needed in order to feel comfortable within this all too (for whatever reason) inaccessible community. No worries, because these guys have taken the time to do it for you and at very accessible prices.

Currently State Bicycle offers 7 color combos (more to come), 3 sizes (52cm, 55cm and 59cm) and an option of handlebar style (bull, drop or risers). The bicycles ride smooth and the rider whether experienced or not, will be astonished at the price point of these fine steeds.

State Bicycles start at $429 (shipping included). Quite simply a steal for all that is included and I can't think of anyone's hands I'd rather put you in than these fine gentlemen; Knowledgeable, helpful and some of the friendliest dudes you'll meet.

So, if you're in the market or have a friend that's in the market, remember to check out State Bicycle Co.

Enjoy.

Delorean

With a steady buzz coming out of SXSW and some heavy play on MBE, I have taken quite a liking to the Barcelona dancey-pop outfit; Delorean.

Their album Subiza comes out via Matador Records June 8th in the States. But, you can pre-order now and receive a dowload instantly of the whole album.

They have a number of tour dates coming up with Miike Snow on the west coast and a stop at the Echoplex in LA, April 17th. However, I imagine they might be coming back through town as they'll be up against that little festival in the desert and this guy in SB.

Listen to a couple singles below and get your discothèque on.

Good Friday.

Delorean - Stay Close
Delorean - Seasun
