For The Record: Destroyer - Kaputt

Dan Bejar is a journeyman of sorts. Wandering around with The New Pornographers, the occasional Swan Lake jam sesh and of course his solo venture as, Destroyer. The dude is pretty prolific.

Despite some very solid albums from this guy (Destroyer's Rubies is classic); I never knew he was so damn smooth.

You'd never think lilting little synth and sax lines would float over Destoryer's unique vocal delivery so well. But it does; and it's really good. I didn't live in the glory haze that was the late 70s... but from what I gather, this certainly fits right in and it's a commendable step in his long list of works.

Take a listen to the album in full, thanks to the wonderful Hype Machine.

Kaputt is out now via Merge Records. Check it.

Smith Westerns Album Preview

Chicago band Smith Westerns have a solid follow up their 2009s S/T buzzy release with, Dye It Blonde. The youngsters have matured a bit and with it comes a more realized, complete work that fits somewhere between 70s pop and fuzzy shoegaze.

The wonderful NPR Music has the album streaming in its entirety and I highly suggest a listen.

Dye It Blonde will be released via Fat Possum Records January 18th.

Check it out and for quicker satisfaction new single All Die Young is streaming on YKTAM's 1/9 edition of Sunday Morning Soundtrack.
