Win a trip from KCRW to see The National play in NYC!

For those that know me, it should come as no surprise that I would jump at the opportunity to promote two of my favs in one sitting.

So here's the deal - The National will be performing at the Brooklyn Academy of Music May 15th, benefiting Red Hot and KCRW wants to send you there. Of course there is a mild catch. Sign up to be subscriber by Friday May 7th at noon and you will automatically be eligible to win airfare, a stay at the Ace Hotel and tickets to the show, all for two. (It really does feel better to listen as a subscriber, trust me).

Additionally, the concert is going to be simulcast on You Tube and will be directed by the famous DA Pennebaker; really cool stuff.

To learn more about the sweepstakes and to become a member head on over to KCRW. And just to hammer the point home once more, take a listen below to High Violet; it's wonderful.

Odds and Ends

A couple bands I like to post about here on YKTAM, The National and Broken Social Scene have provided us good times heading into the weekend.

Firstly, head over to the NY Times website for a great article on the National and stream their new album High Violet in its entirety. Can't wait for this record to drop. Also, remember that tickets are still available for their two shows at the Wiltern May 21 and 22.

Secondly, Broken Social Scene played their new single Forced to Love on Letterman last night. See above and you can also stream their new album as well. BSS will be playing a free in-store performance at Amoeba in Hollywood Tuesday May 4 at 6pm. Get there early!

How did we get by consuming music not in the digital age?

The National debut new song on Jimmy Fallon

The National graced us with their presence last night on Fallon and with it came a sneak peak into their new album High Violet. The Brooklyn band played lead track Terrible Love, which crashes and closes with a bang (like all National songs should). The highly anticipated album drops May 11th and this little taste leaves me more excited than ever. Check out the website created for the album and watch a couple clips featuring them in the studio.

Also they have two Los Angeles dates at the Wiltern (5/21,5/22) this spring.

Enjoy
